Pat and Emmitt Smith presented the Roger Staubach award to Dr. Phil and Robin McGraw for their exceptional work with women and children around the country. Named for the legendary Dallas Cowboys quarterback and real estate icon, this award recognizes sports and or entertainment professionals who positively impact the lives of children by living courageously and creating opportunities for today’s youth. This is the only award to be named in Staubach’s honor other than the one established at his alma mater, the U.S. Naval Academy. Former recipients include Steve and Marjorie Harvey and Magic and Cookie Johnson.
Said Dr. Phil and Robin McGraw: “We are incredibly honored and humbled to be receiving this special award from our dear friends, supporters and philanthropic leaders, Pat and Emmitt Smith. Raising awareness for disadvantaged children and families is something that is so near and dear to our hearts and will continue to always have our full and ongoing support. It’s our hope that with our already established advancing programs and the introduction of even more over time, we can inspire hope and happiness for today’s youth and give every person struggling a reason to smile and be confident in who they are every day of their lives.”
Before the ballroom doors even opened, ESCI had already raised $1 million dollars and by the night’s end, a figure of $1.2 million dollars raised was being extolled. On Saturday, May 7th, players gathered at TPC Craig Ranch for a day of golf. The winners of the 2016 Emmitt Smith Celebrity Invitational (with a net score of -29) were the foursome comprised of John Randle, Craig McCoy, Craig Hill and Kevin Boyd. The Golf Channel was onsite to congratulate the winning team and interview John Randle. Now in its 7th year, the event has raised more than $6.2 million in support of Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities, including PESC’s very own Team 22 program. TEAM 22 provides long-term mentorship, unique enrichment experiences, a summer enrichment program, college tours and access to a college education through scholarships.
